„UNESCO World heritage region“: the mighty Dachstein – 2996 meters high – has been decorated with this award in 1997.

Dachstein hiking tour

Whether you are a »Sunday« hiker or have a bit of mountain goat flowing
through your veins – the Dachstein greets you with gloriously scenic spots,
the pristine nature of alpine pastures, unique sights and sincere people.
The Dachstein and its surrounding regions are a magnet for all hiking fans, home to one of the most beautiful hiking tours in all of the Alps, leading out through Styria, Upper Austria and Salzburg. Known as the "Dachstein Rundwanderweg", it is 121 kilo-meters in total length and consists of eight daily stages, each taking from four to seven hours to complete (no ropes or climbing harnesses required). Each stage can also be tackled individually, of course, as part of a beautiful day-hike.
In 1997, the Dachstein together with the Dachstein Salzkammergut region was named a UNESCO World Natural & Cultural Heritage Site.
Along the way, you will gain fascinating insights into the local past and future, as
well as learning about personalities with a special connection to this mountain massif.
