The route

  • Handing Over Travel Documents
  • Overnight stay in Gosau

To start, hike from your lodging in Gosau along the Herrenweg trail over Kalvarienberg to the Zwieselalm, where the Gablonzerhütte is located. There, you’ll be treated to a remarkable panorama with a magnificent view of the Dachstein.

  • Approx. 9 km, 4.5 hours, elevation gain/loss: 890 / 123 m
  • Overnight stay at the Gablonzerhütte. (You must carry your own luggage and hut sleeping bag for the night at the Gablonzerhütte during the hike.)

From the Gablonzerhütte, you’ll hike along the Austriaweg, first across steep flower-filled meadows to the Oberer Törlecksattel. From there, the trail continues slightly downhill along the south face of the Großer Donnerkogel and through mountain pine and forest to the Stuhlalm. From here, it’s another ½ hour to the Theodor-Körner-Hütte.

  • Approx. 4 km, 2 hours, elevation gain/loss: 114 / 217 m.
  • Overnight stay at the Theodor-Körner-Hütte (luggage & hut sleeping bag for the night at the Theodor-Körner-Hütte must be carried by you during the hike)

From the Theodor-Körner Hut, you hike back to the Stuhlalm. Today’s hike takes you through the steeper Stuhlloch and then on through mountain pine groves and boulders. After that, the green alpine meadows take center stage. Passing the striking Bischofsmütze, you reach today’s destination—the Hofpürgl Hut.

  • Approx. 6.5 km, 2–3 hours, elevation gain/loss: 339 / 97 m
  • Overnight stay at the Hofpürglhütte (luggage & hut sleeping bag—for the night at the Hofpürglhütte—must be carried by you during the hike)

From the Hofpürglhütte, you begin the descent into the valley toward Filzmoos via the Wastl-Lackner Trail down to the Hofalmen. Passing the Almsee, via the Mandlinghofalm and the Löckenwaldgraben, the route continues to the center of Filzmoos. After exploring the town center, take a taxi back to the starting point in Gosau.

  • Approx. 12 km, 5–6 hours, elevation gain/loss: 278 / 1,614 m
