The Schladming-Dachstein Card Special combines hikes around the Dachstein with numerous benefits of the Schladming-Dachstein Card. During your stay, you’ll enjoy free and discounted services such as mountain railways, hiking buses and a wide range of leisure activities in the region. The 6-day tour combines alpine hiking experiences with extra flexibility for exploring at your own pace.

The route

- Accommodation in Schladming or Ramsau
Option 1:
- Hike in the valley (also recommended in bad weather). From the Südwandhütte with a view of the imposing Dachstein massif and ascent via the Anton Baum Trail. Approx. 15 km, 4–5 hours, elevation gain/loss: 1,048 / 785 m
Option 2: Drive up to the Dachstein Glacier – high-altitude hike to the Guttenberghaus.
- Overnight stay at the Guttenberghaus (In case of bad weather, the Guttenberghaus can be reached via a route in the valley.)
- Approx. 9.5 km, 4–5 hours, elevation gain/loss: 264 / 861 m
- Luggage transport from Ramsau to Gröbming, where you will spend the night the following day.
- You must bring your own luggage and sleeping bag for the night at the Guttenberghaus!
- Note: For Option 2 using the Dachstein Cable Car, it is absolutely necessary to reserve the ascent at www.derdachstein.at approximately one week in advance due to limited availability. Each guest is responsible for making their own reservation.
- Overnight stay at the Steinerhaus mountain inn.
- Approx. 13 km, 6 hours, elevation gain/loss: 552 / 860 m
Hike through the Notgasse (a 500-meter-long gorge featuring rock carvings dating back up to 2,000 years)
- Overnight stay at the Steinerhaus mountain inn
- Approx. 15 km, 7 hours, elevation gain/loss: 1,169 / 1,169 m – or a relaxing day at the lodge
After a hearty mountain breakfast, you’ll be transferred back from the Steinerhaus to Schladming or Ramsau, the starting point. Individual departures or additional nights can be booked.

A lodging tax is payable on site at the accommodations (approx. 1 to 4 euros per person per night). Children under 15 are usually exempt.
Overnight stay in a mountain hut – what should you keep in mind?
- *Hut sleeping bag: Blankets are available in the huts; only a lightweight cotton or silk sleeping bag is required.
- Most huts do not accept card payments. Bring enough cash for meals and other expenses on site.
- Due to their location, not all huts can offer running water, drinking water, or showers. In some cases, the toilets do not have a flush.
- Dogs allowed upon request; not permitted in the sleeping quarters. Overnight stays with a companion in the winter room; dog kennels available in some cases. Additional fees apply on-site. In Austria, a general leash and muzzle requirement applies!
- We recommend purchasing travel cancellation insurance.
- Luggage cannot be transported to the following hut: Guttenberghaus. Luggage is transported from the previous accommodation to the next. For hut stays during the hike, you must carry your own luggage and sleeping bag.

For environmental reasons, we recommend traveling to and from the tour by public transportation (train/bus).
Please note that the tours are weather-dependent, but there are always alternative hiking options available.
