Brandalm
Tour description
Idyllically located, the Brandalm sits at nearly 1,600 m above sea level directly on the ski and hiking trail in the midst of the Ramsau alpine region at the foot of the Dachstein. The wonderful mountain backdrop and the dreamy view of the southern walls of the Dachstein and the opposing Schladminger Tauern invite you to linger on our sun terrace. If it's cooler outside, the cozy tiled stove and the warm hospitality in our homely parlor warm you up while enjoying authentic folk music.
Our hut is situated directly at the foot of the Dachstein, amidst our alpine region. This encompasses a wide, partly grazed area and has been family-owned for generations. Due to the decay of the old cheese hut, father Fritz Schrempf decided to build a new – initially small managed alpine hut – in 1980. Together with his wife Erika and their three children, great value has always been placed on tradition and authentic folk music. Over time, some smaller renovations and extensions have been made, with the largest renovation occurring in 2007. In 2012, ownership of the hut passed to son Philipp Schrempf, who, in the same year, along with father Fritz, began construction of the Dachstein chapel. It was ecumenically consecrated in 2014. The mountaineers' memorial, which is managed by the Ramsau mountain rescue, commemorates the climbers who have fallen in the Dachstein area since 1879.
At the Brandalm, we serve our guests regional specialties and authentic dishes based on traditional recipes, from hearty beef soup to dumplings with real Styrian cheese, to homemade strudel or traditional donuts in October.
As passionate alpine farmers and nature lovers, we treat our guests to a strengthening snack with traditional delicacies and products from our own organic farm - you can taste the difference.

Hearty, crispy & hearty or perhaps sweet & airy – donuts, they come in various forms in the Schladming-Dachstein region. When autumn sets in and the larches at the foot of the Dachstein slowly begin to change color, not only does this natural spectacle attract many hikers to Ramsau am Dachstein, a culinary highlight in October is the donut weeks at the Brandalm. In our blog post, you will learn about the history behind the famous Ennstaler Styrian donut and what other delicacies are prepared traditionally by the Schrempf family. Which donut do you like best?
