Map, elevation profile & further information

From the hiking trail head Vorberg-Arnika you follow the trail through the forest to the North side of Halserberg. At the trail junction in the forest you make a left and continue on the winter walking trail towards the mountain chaltes. The trail now runs along the edge of the forest. Next, you reach the trail junction below Rösteralm chalet, and just a few steps further you reach Halseralm chalet. A slight ascent followed by a short section through the forest takes you to Sonnenalm chalet and finally to Wiesmahdalm chalet from where you take the same way back to your starting point.
Exit from federal highway B320 approximately 4 km west of Schladming in Pichl and continue towards Vorberg. In Vorberg pass by Hotel Steirerhof and continue to Pension Arnika, where you find the hiking trail head Vorberg-Arnika.Parking is available at the hiking trail head Vorberg-Arnika.
The trail head Vorberg-Arnika can be reached with the ski bus of Ramsauer Verkehrsbetriebe (RVB) - the sop is "Pension Arnika".
In winter, caution is advised even on seemingly easy hikes. In shady areas, the ground can be slightly icy, and there may be avalanche danger below slopes. Mountaineering is therefore primarily a matter of personal responsibility – even more so in winter. Tourist associations and avalanche warning services assume no liability whatsoever based on the information provided.

Your equipment should ideally include:
  • Ankle-high, warm shoes. Waterproof, warm shoes with a treaded sole are ideal. Optional: Gaiters for additional snow protection.
  • A hood and warm clothing, ideally layered. Don't forget a change of clothes for longer winter hikes: a wind and waterproof jacket and trousers.
  • A small backpack with a warm drink in a thermos and snacks as needed
  • Sun protection
  • Cell phone
  • First aid kit
  • Optional: crampons/snow spikes (snow chains for shoes), telescopic hiking poles for better grip and balance.
Winter Walking Ticket

With the Schladming-Dachstein Winter Walking Ticket you can use several cable-cars and chair-lifts to get to the trail heads of some of the most beautiful winter hikes.
